Jesus Carries His Cross

"If you wish to come after me, you must take up the cross and follow me. If you wish to save your life, you will lose it, but if you lose your life for my sake, you will find it." Matthew 16:25

Jesus leaves the city he loves so much, a city that does not recognize its Messiah. Carrying his cross, he is mocked and ridiculed by the crowd. The Lamb of God carries the sins and sufferings of us all.

God, our Father, we commend to you those who are persecuted, scorned, misunderstood, and driven from their homes. Help them join their sufferings to the cross of Jesus so that they may gain new life. We also commend all our separated brothers and sisters to you; gather them into one flock under the one Shepherd.

Eternal, all-powerful God, grant us the grace to remember the teachings of the Passion of your Son and to know his Resurrection.
