Sisters Meet in Argentina, page
two
Our sisters in
the barrios oversee adult reading programs, offer catechism classes
and work for a program that provides milk and bread to very young children
twice a week in the late afternoon hours before they return home to
their parents. right: milk and bread in the afternoon
We celebrated the
feast of St. Cajetan with the people of the barrio on August 7th. In
an outpouring of faith they sought the help of this Italian saint in
their poverty and dire situation. Their response was so great that the
Mass was held on the street to accommodate the masses of people.
In Moreno, near
Buenos Aires, we watched a great march of Argentinean workers, who had
been marching from city to city since the end of July, towards their
final destination: Buenos Aires, the capital. They were gathering signatures
to petition their government to provide services for the unemployed,
job training and assistance.
