Our Monastery in Rome is called Sts John & Paul's

Built upon the ruins

Part of the monastery is built upon the ruins of the Temple of Claudius of which two tiers of colonnades have been excavated. These extend into the dark cavern visible in the bottom-centre of this picture. A gateway leads into the Piazza and permits entrance to the main door of the Generalate at the left of the picture.

In the coffee-room

A view of the coffee-room where from an early hour, the brethren could come to take breakfst from the huge urns of coffee. Bread and butter and cheese was also available and -- although there were a few tables and chairs, most of the monks ate at the little ledge around the wall while they remained standing.

From the steps of San Gregorio

Looking towards St. John & Paul's from the steps of the Basilica of San Gregorio. The little dome over the Chapel of St. Paul of the Cross appears again as well as the series of columns around the apse.
