about Joseph

"Don't be afraid..."

"Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.'...When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home." (Mt.1:20-21,24)

Joseph and his dream
Joseph and his dream

The dream gave Joseph his life's task: he must care for the child and his mother. But it left so much unexplained. What would the child be like ? What would he do? And how precisely was Joseph himself to fulfill his role?

The carpenter of Nazareth could only wait until those questions were answered. God alone unfolds dreams.

Generations before, God spoke in dreams to another Joseph, the son of Jacob.

Sold by his brothers into slavery in Egypt, he became Pharoah's counselor and then the guardian of the Israelite people in a time of famine.

Following his namesake Joseph, whom God led in unexpected ways, the carpenter of Nazareth resolved to trust in his dreams.

He took Mary into his home.
