Andrew finds the Messiah
Going up to Jerusalem for the celebration of a feast, Simon's brother Andrew stopped where the road crossed the Jordan River to hear John the Baptist preaching (J.B. Hartley illustration at right). Moved by John's words and convinced he was a prophet, Andrew decided to stay on with him as a disciple. John introduced Andrew to Jesus.
"We have found the Messiah. Come and meet him," Andrew reported to Simon excitedly.
Immediately Simon went to meet Jesus near the Jordan River. Jesus repeated to Simon what he had said to Andrew: "Come, follow me."
From that time onward, Simon was the chosen companion of Jesus.
