Peter's Vision
Peter on the rooftop - illustrated by Katherine Lee Bates While they were on their way. Peter was praying on the roof of the house where he was staying. He, too, had a vision. He saw the heavens opening and a great cloth lowered to the earth. In it were animals and birds of all kinds. A voice came to him: "Get up, Peter, and eat." Now as a Jew Peter kept the kosher laws which forbade eating many kinds of meat. So he replied: "I cannot, Lord, because I have never eaten anything impure." "What God has declared pure you shall not call impure," the voice answered. And the vision ended. While Peter was wondering what the vision meant, Cornelius' messengers arrived, asking him to come to the soldier's house.
